Root Canal Treatment(RCT)

Root Canal Treatment(RCT)

A root canal treatment (also called endodontic therapy) is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage deep within a tooth. It is performed when the soft tissue inside the tooth, called the pulp, becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, a crack or chip in the tooth, or trauma.

Steps in a Root Canal Treatment:

Diagnosis: The dentist takes X-rays to assess the extent of the infection and damage inside the tooth.
Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is used to numb the affected area to ensure the patient feels no pain during the procedure.
Accessing the Pulp: The dentist drills a small hole in the tooth to access the infected pulp inside.
Cleaning the Canals: Using small instruments, the infected or damaged pulp is removed from the root canals. The canals are then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
Shaping the Canals: After cleaning, the canals are shaped to be filled with a special material called gutta-percha, which seals the space.
Filling and Sealing: The tooth is filled with a temporary filling. In many cases, a crown is placed later to protect the tooth and restore its function.
Final Restoration: If needed, the tooth is covered with a crown to prevent future fractures and to restore its normal function.
